Interview with Author Jackson Baer
Thank you for stopping by and sharing a bit about yourself and your writing, now for the fun part.
1.) What first inspired you to become a writer?
I always wanted to write as a kid and used to write songs all the time. Every time I tried to write a novel, I quit because it just wasn’t very good. Then, after college English and Writing classes, I found that I loved writing and didn’t want to do anything else. Also, reading Joyce Carol Oates has really inspired me in my writing.
2.) What is your favorite line from a book?
“It’s never the changes we want that change everything.” from The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz.
3.) Tell us something about yourself that your readers might not know about you?
I got married at nineteen and have been married for over ten years. Also, we have four children. Oh yeah, I’m deathly afraid of mice and didn’t really start reading until after high school. I could read, don’t get me wrong, I just hated it growing up.
4.) You just recently signed with a publisher for your upcoming release The Earth Bleeds Red, tell us what the experience has been like for you?
It’s been amazing. Honestly, everyone at Pandamoon has been fantastic to work with so far. We’re still finishing up the editing at this point but will be moving on to the cover shortly and have already started looking at different ideas.
5.) The Earth Bleeds Red will release in August, tell us more about it.
The release is set for August 27th and will be available on all formats. It’s a literary suspense (think Joyce Carol Oates, Sherman Alexie, Junot Diaz). The novel follows Scott and Jessie Miller who has seemingly lost their only daughter to the Hail Mary Killer. It looks at why bad things happen to good people will keep you reading till the last page to find out what happens to this wonderful family.
6.) What other novels do you have in the works? Anything you want to share about them?
I’m currently writing a literary psychological thriller called THE LIGHTS WILL NEVER FADE. It’s a little different from THE EARTH BLEEDS RED, as it’s creepy at its core, though it isn’t exactly a scary read. I’ll say that a recently graduated girl’s entire family is murdered and the shadow will not leave her alone.
7.) Just for fun, if any of your books were made into movies, who would you like to see star in them?
I could see Mark Ruffalo playing Scott in THE EARTH BLEEDS RED and Kerri Russell playing his wife, Jessie.
8.) Any advice you would give to an aspiring author?
Write every single day. It’s not important how much you write as long as you are writing. Reading is just as important as writing. Read as often as you can and connect with other authors. It’s important to build friendships with fellow writers and readers as well.
